When you want to enhance your appearance, cosmetic eyecare is a safe and reliable option. There are a number of elements that affect the eyes and the very thin skin around them. Two of the most common occurrences include droopy eyes and wrinkles, which not only decrease your visual appeal by making you look older, but may also hinder your vision.
Possible Eye Issues
Different people are exposed to different elements and hence, acquire different ailments. There are acne scars, wrinkles and spots caused due to ageing, pollution, sun damage and excess skin. Each can be cured in a variety of ways, some by topical treatments while others via surgery.
Types of Cosmetic Eyecare Procedures
If you have any eye-related issues, modern medicine and surgical procedures offer many ways to resolve them. Despite the sizeable number of procedures available, it is always suggested that a professional guides you through it all before you agree on any one method, since your eyes and the skin around them are very sensitive.
Some of the main procedures used for cosmetic eyecare are discussed below:
-
- Blepharoplasty: Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic procedure used to help uplift droopy eyes. So if you feel that the skin above your eyes is becoming loose and giving your eyes a droopy feel or the droop is affecting your vision, this procedure is ideal. You are usually called in an hour or so before the surgery is scheduled and some usual tests will be carried out to make sure you are ready. Usually local anesthesia is administered for this surgery, and a relaxant may also be given. During the surgery on the upper eyelid, the excess skin is removed from around the inner corner of the eye.
The incisions are made precisely so they coincide with your natural fold, so that that in case there is any scarring, it is practically impossible to notice. Surgery carried out on the lower eyelid is called transconjuctival blepharoplasty, and does not involve external incisions.
There will be some bruising and swelling for a while, which heals quickly. However, the end result is not guaranteed, as it will only be apparent after almost a year, when the eye has completely healed and recovered from the surgery.

- Botox Injections: Wrinkles are common once you enter your late twenties, and develop into deeper lines with time. However, quick and early treatment can reduce them and in some cases completely eliminate them. So, if you have wrinkles around your eyes, including the eye corner, between the eyes and even frown-lines, Botox injection is the answer.Since Botox can only be administered in very small quantities at a time, the whole procedure usually spans over a few appointments. The injections administer Botox into muscles, which is a protein that blocks the muscle movements that encourage wrinkling. The whole procedure hardly takes a few seconds. The best thing about this treatment is that it is not a surgery and hence, will not leave any scars. However, do not expect wrinkles to disappear overnight – it usually takes a few days until you see some positive changes.
- Restylane: This procedure is also used to help with wrinkles, not limited to those around the eyes, but also includes forehead or mouth wrinkles, smile lines and scarring of all kinds. The procedure requires application of an anesthetic cream that is topical, but you may opt for an injection of local anesthesia if you prefer.During the procedure, restylane is injected inside the crevices of the wrinkles in very small amounts. It causes a plumping effect, filling the gaps that created wrinkles. The entire procedure takes about 30 minutes in all. It is not a permanent solution, but it does last for a long time until you need it again.
You may feel itching, redness and similar symptoms initially, which are very normal. However, once the side-effects have worn off after a few days, the actual results will be visible.
